What is the project?

Misogyny in gaming is a culturally popular subject right now. It is also akin to the huge feminism and gender equality movement that is taking over our news feeds. We've heard the good and the bad, but usually from one perspective, that of the female gamer. What I want to do is shift the table and try and find a unique view on the subject. I am asking male gamers to join that movement I'm now calling “Play Like a Girl” I would like male gamers that play all games with voice chat who would like to help me out to change their profile pics, in game names and voices (with a free mod) to play 10 hours of the games they would normally play, but play them as a woman. I want to see what the male perspective is when they actually experience what it means to be a gamer that is female. During your play time I’d like to have you track a few specifics and once complete I'd like to have you answer a questionnaire. Also any screen caps, audio capture or video recordings that you are able to make (not necessary) that would be applicable to the study would be greatly appreciated. So, are you ready to play like a girl?

 

Why have men do it? Why not just record what happens to women?

The answer is simply that those who care about how women are treated in games have already seen that and those who should be listening tend not to care what a woman has to say about how they're being treated. Also, let’s be real, this was a lot more fun.

 

The voice mod sucks. Will people actually believe I'm a woman?

Yes, the voice mod isn't stellar, but 100% of the first round of guys trying this out all had people believe they were women.  You're creating a full picture; gender neutral or feminine name/picture plus a private profile and a femine voice all equals the full picture of a woman.

 

What do I do if someone calls me out for using a voice-mod?

My original guys responded in different ways, all of them worked.  They told them they had a cold, their mic sucked, they sat on their mic, they were on wifi... Figure out what works best for you.

 

How do I get this voice mod to work?

Once downloaded (if using Morph Vox jr./pro you must make screaming bee audio your default mic within windows and restart any game you were playing, please contact me (on the contact page) with any technical issues and I may be able to help.

 

Didn't Sir Action Slacks already do this? Aren't you stealing his idea?

Yes Slacks did this on his Lady Day 2014 stream.  He did it because I asked him to, so nope, I'm not stealing his idea, he did it because of me.

 

Why would I do this?  It's just going to make men look bad!

I actually don't want to make men look bad, that's not the goal.  I want to show how far the gaming community has progressed and start to maybe weed out the serious jerks.  Also, maybe it'd be nice to experience what your female counterparts are going through so you can compare it to your own experience.
